The holiday season didn’t slow the Dundas Catch the Ace fundraiser, with its highest weekly prize yet awarded in the week 20 draw on Wednesday, Dec. 27, and the growing jackpot still in play for at least another week.
Hosted by Royal Canadian Legion’s Valley City branch, the fundraiser’s progressive jackpot surpassed last week’s projection by $2,000 as ticket sales continued to grow between Dec. 20 and 27 — despite contending with Christmas.
The weekly prize broke the $3,000 mark for the first time, with the winner taking the $3,006 pot, but failing to draw the Ace of Spades for the $39,207 jackpot — which will grow by 30 per cent of ticket sales between Dec. 27 and the next draw at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at the Dundas legion (280 King St. W.).

Each week, the holder of the ticket drawn earns the weekly prize — 20 per cent of the week’s ticket sales. The other 50 per cent goes to the local legion and its partners, the Dundas Terry Fox Run and McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Nicole Wilson, co-chair of the local Terry Fox Run organizing committee said it’s exciting, “we are still going and picking up some steam.”
A total of $7,515 from Week 20 ticket sales will be shared by the community partners, adding to the estimated $35,000 raised in the first 19 weeks.
The legion has already donated some of its proceeds from the fundraiser to the Dundas Blues Junior Hockey Club, Dundas Salvation Army, Routes Youth Centre, and Dundas Minor Hockey Association.
